ESPOO, FINLAND - Sioux Falls Stampede goaltender Caleb Heil has been added to this year's U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team roster. The team begins its quest for back-to-back Gold medals at the International Ice Hockey Federation U18 Men's World Championship, held in Espoo and Vantaa, Finland, starting Thursday, April 25.

Heil has been in the Stampede's blue and gold for parts of two seasons and has appeared in 28 games for the Herd. He holds a record of 11-12-2-0 with 6-10-1-0 this season. In his over 1,500 minutes in net, Heil has stopped 415-of-488 pucks from entering the Herd's net, accumulating a save percentage of .870. The 2006 born goaltender is ranked 23rd in the NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings and is draft eligible this season.

This is not Heil's first time in a Team USA jersey. Earlier this year, Heil was loaned to Team USA's NTDP for a series against the Augustana University Vikings, seeing his first college-level minutes at just 17 years old. Heil also played in the 2023-24 Hlnka Gretzky Cup, where he ranked ninth across all participating goaltenders with a .853 save percentage, eighth in goals-against average with 3.62 and was tied for the most wins in the tournament with three. Adding to his international season, Heil also appeared in the World Jr. A Challenge in December, held in Truro, Nova Scotia.

The tournament features 10 countries split into two groups for the preliminary round, which begins tomorrow (April 25). Team USA will compete in Group A alongside Finland, Latvia, Norway and Slovakia, with all games played at Metro Arena in Espoo. Group B includes Canada, Czechia, Kazakhstan, Sweden and Switzerland, and they will play preliminary round games at Trio Arena in Vantaa. Each site will host two quarterfinal games, while the two semifinal games and bronze and gold medal-games will be played in Espoo.

Team USA is led by Nick Fohr (Grand Forks, N.D.), who is a first-time head coach for the U.S. at the IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship. Brodie Ziemer (Hutchinson, Minn.) is the captain of the United States, while Max Plante (Hermantown, Minn.) and Teddy Stiga (Sudbury, Mass.) will serve as alternate captains.

The U.S. is in search of its 12th gold medal in tournament history after winning gold last year in Basel, Switzerland, and looking for back-to-back championships for the first time since 2014 and 2015. The 11 gold medals are the most of any competing team in tournament history.

Team USA begins preliminary round play tomorrow (April 25) against Slovakia at 7:00 a.m. ET. All U.S. games throughout the tournament will be broadcast live on NHL Network.
