Heatwave signs first eight players

Fresno, CA. Greg Chambers, GM of the ABA Fresno Heatwave announced the signing of eight players to the teams Veterans Camp to be held in October. Five of the eight are from the Central Valley including former Fresno State star players Larry Abney (6'8" forward) and Demetrius Porter (6' guard), CSU Bakersfield and Fresno City College star Terri Ellis (6'10" forward, Modesto star guard Richard Gonder (6'3") and Sanger native and former Fresno City College player Mark Alvarado (6'6" forward). In addition, the team signed Virgil Cobbins (6'5" guard) who played for St. Louis University where he was conference MVP in 1999, Eric Meche (6'7" forward/guard) from Houston Baptist University where he was conference Defensive Player of the Yedar in 2001 & 2002 and Myron Allen (6'1" guard) from the University of North Dakota. Myron received McDonalds All American honors.

"With the guys we've acquired, I believe we have a sound nucleus of talent and experience and I feel especially good about the fact that the Central Valley is well represented," said Head Coach Johnny Moore. "I think we're well on our way to putting together an ABA championship team."
