Heap of Runs Plenty for Hallock

LANCASTER, Calif. - Kyle Hallock tossed five scoreless innings and the JetHawks' offense crossed the plate 15 times to beat the Visalia Rawhide, 15-2, to extend their winning streak to nine game on Thursday night at The Hangar.

Hallock (3-0) allowed only one hit over five innings of work and struck out a season-high five batters. By the time he left the game, the JetHawks were up 8-0.

Lancaster got the scoring started off Visalia starter Kyle Schepel (2-3) in the second inning. Chris Epps tripled in the first run of the game and Jean Batista and Delino DeShields each added RBIs before the inning was over.

In the third, Andrew Aplin led off with a single to extend his hitting streak to 10 games and eventually moved to third base on a wild pitch and ground ball. Preston Tucker picked him up with a sacrifice fly to make the score, 4-0.

Joe Sclafani extended the lead in the fourth inning with a two-run single.

Duffy closed Schepel's night with a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Duffy scored four runs on the night to tie the JetHawks season-high. He went 2-for-3 with two walks.

Schepel allowed eight runs on eight hits over five innings. He walked four and struck out one.

Lancaster jumped on Visalia reliever Frank Santana who struggled to throw strikes after coming in from the bullpen.

DeShields singled to start the sixth inning and Santana followed with back-to-back walks to Sclafani and Aplin, each on four pitches. M.P. Cokinos hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score DeShields.

The JetHawks broke it wide open with six runs in the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Lancaster put together five straight hits. Aplin, Cokinos, Tucker and Nash all singled in runs. Epps doubled in two.

Tucker's two RBI brings his total to 50 on the season, the most in the Cal League and all of Minor League Baseball.

Epps went 3-for-5 in the game with a triple, two doubles and two RBI. DeShields reached base four times and stole two bases.

Luis Cruz allowed two runs over three innings as the tandem starter. Tommy Shirley threw a scoreless ninth in relief.

The JetHawks (33-20) continue their series with Visalia on Friday night at 7:00 pm. Blair Walters (3-1, 5.23) will start against Keith Hessler (3-2, 4.53). Friday night is the first Fireworks Night of the season at The Hangar.
