ANCHORAGE- Alaska Wild received an early Christmas present this year; Haywood Hill has signed on to lead Anchorage's first professional football team. Hill, of Dallas, Ga., visited team executives in early December for an interview and to familiarize himself with Alaska and the organization.

David Weatherholt, president of Alaska Professional Sports Inc., owner of the Alaska Wild, said Hill made a great impression and comes with high recommendations.

"He is known as a defensive specialist and has paid his dues in the indoor football arena," said Weatherholt. "We are pleased to offer Hill his first head coaching opportunity and are excited to have him on board."

Hill has over 13 years of experience as a defensive coordinator and scout for all levels of professional indoor football, including the Intense Football League (IFL), Arena Football League (AFL) and Arena Football League 2 (AF2). Most recently, Hill was the defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Valley Vipers of AF2. In 2003, Hill was defensive coordinator of IFL Corpus Christi Hammerheads.

Hill said he enjoyed coaching the IFL in its inaugural season. The league proved competitive and drew a large fan base quickly.

"Alaska's waited a long time for professional football and it's going to be an exciting season," said Hill. "I'm ready to bring the community a quality football program."

Hill will travel to Anchorage in January for the open tryouts and said he is eager to jump into the aggressive free agent players market of the many indoor leagues.

The Alaska Wild is Alaska's first professional football team and one of two professional sport teams based in Anchorage. Alaska Wild is owned by Alaska Professional Sports, Inc. For more information on Alaska Wild and Alaska Professional Sports, Inc., please visit www.akprosports.com.
