Lubbock Hawks News Release

With less than a day's rest, the Lubbock Hawks came home to the Rip Griffin center for their first home game against the 2004 Pro Cup champion Dallas Fury, coached by ESPN analyst Nancy Lieberman. Dallas came in to the game 0-2, losing to Birmingham Monday night on the road.

The Hawks and Fury were very friendly before the night's contest, but when the horn sounded, the gloves came off. Dallas scored first, but the Hawks answered quickly, putting up 8 unanswered points.

The Hawks' Molly Creamer kept the tempo of the game upbeat, pushing Lubbock up and down the court.

When former Lady Raider Jia Perkins came in to the game, the Hawks' crowd welcomed her like she never left.

The Hawks didn't have an answer for Joanne Aluka in the first half. Aluka brought the Fury back in to striking distance, bringing them to within 2 with 8:22 left in the first half-23-21.

Lubbock fans quickly forgot about the havoc former Longhorn Stacy Stephens used to bring to the Hub City. Stephens received a very warm welcome from her new Lubbock fans.

The Fury's Aluka and Cheryl Ford found themselves in foul trouble late in the 1st half, each with three.

The Hawks' Kesha Watson scored a three with less than a minute left in the 1st half. Lubbock went in to the half ahead 44-38.

The Hawks started the second half off with a bang. Wright scored the first 2 points of the half.

Leading scorer, Ford picked up her 5th foul with 17:08 left in the 2nd half. With Ford on the bench, the Hawks went to work. Within 10 seconds Rochelle Luckett stole the ball twice, capitalizing on each possession, putting the Hawks up 62-46.

An extremely physical game, the Fury picked up a technical with 12:28 in the second half. When Ford came back in to the game with 11:03 left she did all she could do to bring Dallas back, but the Hawks proved to be too much.

The Lubbock Hawks improve to 2-1, winning 90-84. The Hawks take the court Friday at the Rip Griffin Center against San Jose at 7:00. For further information log on to www.nwbl.com/hawks or call 806-797-2333.
