Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-The Waterloo Black Hawks annual Tip-A-Hawk event on Monday, January 25th at The Other Place Restaurant on University Avenue will help raise money to benefit the River Hills School playground fund, the team announced Thursday.

Waterloo Black Hawks players will be on hand to sign autographs and pose for pictures while serving fans pizza, sandwiches, and other items off the OPU menu from 5:30 to 7:30. Tips the players receive while assisting the wait staff will go to the playground fund.

"Year in and year out, this is the one event we get the most comments about," said Waterloo Black Hawks Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. "This is a great activity that allows the people of the Cedar Valley to see the players away from the ice, and really get to interact with them. The fact that we are able to raise a little money for a great cause is a huge bonus for everyone involved."

River Hills is a publicly-sponsored school for children with moderate, severe, and profound developmental disabilities. Serving approximately 150 current students from birth to age 21, the school has been in operation since 1955 and at its current Cedar Falls location since 1967. Area Education Agency 267 operates Rivers Hills, which is funded by participating local school districts in Black Hawk County and across northeast Iowa.
