Hawks Alum to USA Camp

Waterloo, Iowa-USA Hockey announced Friday that former Waterloo Black Hawks goaltender Will Yanakeff has been added to the list of 44 players at this weekend's evaluation camp for the 2012 United States National Junior Hockey Team.
Yanakeff is one of four goalies hoping to make the team which will compete at the IIHF World Junior Championships in Alberta. The camp will begin tomorrow in Lake Placid, New York and continue through next Saturday. The Jerome, Michigan native's opportunity came about after an injury to Mac Carruth of the Portland Winterhawks.
The Hawks acquired Yanakeff in a February 2010 trade with the Sioux City Musketeers. During 10 appearances for Waterloo, he was 5-5-0 with two shutouts and a 3.41 goals-against average. Before playing in the USHL, Yanakeff had been part of the U.S. National Team Development Program, prior to Team USA's entry into the league. Last winter, the Michigan State Spartan freshman was 6-5-1 with a 2.11 GAA and 92.7% save percentage.
