
Hawks add Webb to crowded roster

The Lubbock Hawks roster is almost complete. With the addition of Umeki Webb only one spot remains on the 12-woman roster. Webb is in good company, joining Plenette Pierson, Alicia Thompson, Stacy Stephens, Shereka Wright, Molly Creamer, Kelly Mazzante, Jackie Stiles, Hazel Taylor, Keesha Watson, and Fatou N'Diaye.
Umeki brings a well-rounded sense of basketball knowledge to the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL). Webb not only has experience as a player, but she adds a coaches' perspective to the team.
Umeki, a Dallas native, is a 1998 graduate of North Carolina State University. In her senior year, Webb was named to the All ACC second-team and voted MVP during her junior and senior seasons. Umeki made the transition to coaching assistant in 1997 where she made a Final Four appearance on the Wolfpack coaching staff. Later that year Webb was drafted by the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury in the 3rd round.
Umeki was a two-year starter with the Mercury and instrumental in the team's playoff appearance in 1997. During the1998 season, Webb was third in the WNBA in steals and second on the team in minutes played. Umeki also spent two seasons with the Miami Sol.
Webb spent 3 seasons overseas, averaging 16 points per game in Austria and winning the Austria Cup Championship. She averaged 22 points while in Jerusalem and 18 points while a member of the Olimpaiakos Volos in Greece. Umeki was a member of the 1999 bronze medal winning U.S. Pan American Team and a gold medal winner as a member of the 1994 Olympic Festival team.
