Lubbock Hawks News Release
The NWBL's Lubbock Hawks are adding style to its roster. Jackie Stiles from the Los Angles Sparks is the newest member of the Lubbock Hawks, joining Plenette Pierson, Alicia Thompson, Stacy Stephens and Shereka Wright.
Stiles is from Claflin, Kansas where in 2001, April 14th was declared her day. Jackie is an outstanding athlete and is bringing a lot of experience and skill to the already talented Lubbock Hawks' roster.
A four-year first team all-starter, while at Claflin High School Jackie recorded the most career points in Kansas history for boys and girls, and is ranked 10th nationally among female high school players, putting up 3,603 points.
In 1997 Jackie took her talents to Southwest Missouri State where she was the highest scoring freshman in the nation. She collected numerous awards including: Missouri Valley Conference Player of the year (1999, 2000, 2001), Honorable Mention Kodak All-American, Wade Trophy winner, ESPN The Magazine Shooting Guard of the Year (2001), ESPY Award nominee, and Sports Illustrated for Women All-American 1st Team.
During her first three seasons, Stiles led the MVC in scoring. In her senior season she set an NCAA Division I record by becoming the first women's player to score more than 1,000 points in a season (1062). Jackie also set a NCAA Women's career scoring recording with 3,393 points.
Jackie was drafted by the WNBA's Portland Fire in 2001, she was named the WNBA Rookie of the year and selected to the All-Star team, all during her first season in the league. After having two successful seasons with Portland, Stiles was drafted by the Los Angles Sparks in 2002 when the Fire folded.
Jackie has been sidelined due to injury, but is definitely ready to come back and add some style to the game. She has been staying busy with numerous basketball camps throughout the United States.
