July 28, 2010 - United Football League (UFL 1)
Hartford Colonials News Release
LAS VEGAS, NV - Wednesday, July 28 - The Hartford Colonials and the other United Football League teams today unveiled their new uniforms for the 2010 season at a spectacular event in Las Vegas.
The Colonials uniforms, with the home (blue) and road (white) jerseys, were modeled by running back Andre Dixon and fullback Asaph Schwapp. Hartford's colors are blue, white and gold. The helmet and pants are gold.
"I think the uniforms are very nice. It symbolizes a lot with the State Capitol [on the helmet] and the colors. There's blue - just like UConn," said Dixon, who played for the Huskies. "Being that we play at Rentschler Field, having blue in there is good. The color selection is great. I think these are jerseys that the fans would buy."
"I like them. I like them a lot. It reminds me a lot of Notre Dame," said Schwapp, who played for the Fighting Irish.
Two players from each of the UFL's five teams were introduced while wearing their respective uniforms on the runway and stage in the Grand Hall of the Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas. The production was broadcast outside on the Las Vegas strip via large video screens.
The players were joined by UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue. The event also featured members of the Las Vegas LocoMotion dance team and marked the debut of UFL Fantasy Cheerleader Betty Boop.
"We listened to the fans who wanted dynamic and distinctive uniforms for our second season and you can tell by the reaction here that they are pleased with the results," said UFL Commissioner Huyghue, a Windsor native. "Some of our marquee players were eager to be here this week and model the uniforms for the first time, and only a few weeks from now they will be proudly wearing them again when the UFL season kicks off on September 18."
The Colonials, led by Head Coach and General Manager Chris Palmer, will wear their blue home jerseys in season opener Sept. 18 against the Sacramento Mountain Lions and quarterback Daunte Culpepper at Rentschler Field at 2:30 pm.
The UFL uniforms were produced by SFC USA, LLC, a 40-year-old custom apparel manufacturer based in Las Vegas. As the official replica jersey licensee of the United Football League, SFC provided all uniforms and jersey replica apparel for the uniform unveiling.
