Hartford Colonials News Release

Kevin O'Dea, the Hartford Colonials special teams coordinator last season, has been hired by the NFL's Chicago Bears as an assistant special teams coach.

O'Dea held the same position with the Bears in 2006-07. His 16-year coaching career in the NFL also includes stints with the Chargers (1994-95), Buccaneers ('96-01), Lions ('02-03), Cardinals ('04-05) and Jets ('08-09).

"Kevin did a great job for us here in Hartford," Colonials Head Coach and General Manager Chris Palmer said. "I was very pleased with the accomplishments of our special teams. He's a professional, and he'll do a great job with the Chicago Bears."

Two other assistants who were on Palmer's 2010 coaching staff are also moving on. Tony Sparano Jr. was hired by the Dolphins as the offensive quality control coach after spending one season as an assistant defensive line coach with the Colonials. He will get an opportunity to work with his father, Dolphins Head Coach Tony Sparano.

Osia Lewis, the Colonials defensive coordinator last season, was hired as the defensive line coach at San Diego State University, where he will be reunited with Aztecs Head Coach Rocky Long. Lewis was a defensive coordinator under Long at New Mexico in 2003-08, and both were on the Oregon State coaching staff in the 1990s. Lewis was also a defensive assistant at Illinois in 1997-2002. Prior to joining the Colonials last year, he was the defensive coordinator at Texas-El Paso.
