EAST HARTFORD, CT - May 9, 2011 - The Hartford Colonials signed wide receiver Ryan Grice-Mullen and defensive end Keith Grennan to contracts for the 2011 United Football League season. Terms of the deals are not disclosed.
Grice-Mullen (5-11, 180) - NFL: Signed as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins in January 2010 and was waived Aug. 18. Originally signed by the Houston Texans following the 2008 NFL Draft. After being released by Houston on June 13, signed with the Chicago Bears and was waived Aug. 24. CFL: Played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League in 2010 and was used mainly as a return specialist. Averaged a team-leading 8.0 yards on punt returns and 20.8 yards on kickoffs. Had four receptions for 39 yards. Played for the B.C. Lions in 2008-09. Had 29 receptions for 385 yards and two touchdowns. In 2009 returned a punt 106 yards for a touchdown, setting a CFL record and earning Special Teams Player of the Week. NCAA: Played at Hawaii in 2005-2007 and was an All-WAC First Team selection as a junior in '07. In three seasons at Hawaii, he had 106 receptions for 1,372 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Grennan (6-4, 298) - UFL: Drafted in the 10th round by the Colonials on May 2. NFL: Originally signed by the San Diego Chargers as a free agent in 2007. Made his NFL debut in 2008, registering one tackle in a 23-20 loss to the Colts. Signed to the Browns practice squad in 2009. NCAA: Played two seasons at Eastern Washington (2005-06) and registered 65 tackles and five sacks in 21 games. Sat out 2004 seasons after transferring to EW from Central Washington. Played tight end for Central Washington in 2003 after redshirting in 2002.
