Hartford Athletic News Release
Hartford Athletic have signed midfielder Anderson Asiedu ahead of the 2024 season, pending league and federation approval.
Asiedu comes to Hartford after five outstanding seasons with Birmingham Legion FC. A stalwart of the club, Asiedu was one of the few remaining players from Birmingham's original 2019 roster to still be on the team in 2023. Across five seasons, he totaled 112 appearances over 9,000 minutes of standout play as a box to box midfielder, using his everlasting motor to contribute in several areas. Asiedu created 107 chances, won 160 tackles and 632 duels, swiped 136 interceptions, and added three goals and nine assists.
"Anderson is an experienced player that is well versed in the league. Having battle tested USL players is important to any roster in this league," said Hartford Athletic CEO Nick Sakiewicz. "He is a true professional who has an outstanding work ethic and attitude and demonstrated consistent ability to step up in key moments for his team. We look forward to welcoming him to Hartford."
A native of Dormaa Ahenkro, Ghana, Asiedu made a remarkable journey to professional soccer in the U.S. He was discovered at age 16 in his home country, and then moved to New Jersey to play for St. Benedict's prep school in 2014. He won a state and national championship, then went on to play collegiately at both Monmouth University and UCLA. After a stellar collegiate career that saw him make the All-PAC-12 second team in back to back seasons, he was drafted by Atlanta United in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. He began his professional career in the USL Championship with Atlanta United 2 that season, where he made 10 appearances before being waived by the club in May of that year and landing in Birmingham in July.
