
Harlon Hill Trophy Winner Will Hall Signs with FireAnts

TUPELO, MSâQuarterback Will Hall, the 2003 Harlon Hill Trophy Winner as the Division II college football player of the year, has signed with the Tupelo FireAnts for the 2004 season.
A native of Amory, Mississippi, Hall joins the FireAnts after an impressive collegiate football career. This past year at the University of North Alabama, Hall completed 267 of 372 passes for 3,531 yards and 30 touchdowns during his senior season with the Lions. He also rushed for 467 yards on 154 attempts, scoring five touchdowns. Hall led all Division II quarterbacks in passing efficiency and was also ranked Number 12 nationally in total offense.
After a 4-7 record in 2002, Hall with the help of his UNA teammates, guided the Lions to a 11-0 regular season record and the 2003 Gulf South Conference Championship.
In his final collegiate appearance one week ago, Hall attended the Cactus Bowl, the Division II All-Star game, where threw for a bowl record 192 yards and completed 12 of 25 passes for three touchdowns. He also led the East in rushing with 33 yards on 12 carries.
Over two years at UNA, Hall comes away with a multitude awards, accolades, and school records. In addition to the Harlon Hill Trophy, Hall has been named to the Associated Press Little All-America team, D2Football.com All-America team, and the Daktronics All-America team. He leaves UNA with school records as the all-time leader in pass attempts (693), completions (471), passing yards (6,166), and touchdown passes (42).
"Obviously, we are very excited to sign a player of this caliber," Coach Hall said. "Will has proven to be a winner at every level of football he has played. He not only has outstanding skills, but a tremendous knowledge and passion for the game...he will be a great asset to the Tupelo FireAnts."
Hall will serve as a player/coach with the FireAnts when the team hits the turf in March 2004.
"I am really excited to join the FireAnts," Will Hall said. "With a great group of players already signed like Gunn, Prather, Rainey, and McDonald, to name a few...we have the chance to win and win big. I think you will see people from all around Northeast Mississippi really embrace the FireAnts this season...and that is going to be fun to experience as people from all around the region come to watch us play."
The FireAnts have now signed eight players to date, including Joe Gunn, Pig Prather, Patrick Garth, Rico McDonald, Bobby Hill, Chris Rainey, Eric Bingham, and now Will Hall to the 2004 lineup.
In other news, the FireAnts will conduct their final open tryout on Saturday, January 17th at Robbins Field in Tupelo at the corner of Jackson and Church Streets. Registration starts at 8:00am with camp getting underway at 9:00am. Tryout participants will need to bring running shoes, cleats, and workout clothing appropriate for the weather. The cost is $50 and participants will receive two tickets to the March 12 home opener against the Houma Bayou Bucks at the BancorpSouth Center along with a FireAnts T-shirt.
Season tickets are also on sale now by calling the FireAnts Office at (662) 620-BITE, with prices starting as low as $70 for adults and $42 for children 12 and under / seniors 60 and older.
