HarbourCats Sweep Doubleheader in Kelowna, Gabe Clark Lands in Vancouver
June 13, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release
VICTORIA, B.C. - The Victoria HarbourCats are excited to announce that 2014-15 HarbourCat Gabe Clark, the franchise's single-season home run record holder will begin his 2016 season playing at Nat Bailey Stadium for the Vancouver Canadians, the short-season affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays.
A native of Riverside, CA, Clark starred at Royal Athletic Park during the summer of 2014 following his sophomore year at Oregon State University (NCAA Div. 1). He was one of the most productive hitters in the West Coast League that summer with eight home runs and 31 RBIs, adding eight doubles and batting .291 in 40 games.
The power-hitting first baseman went to the 2014 WCL all-star game in Klamath Falls, OR and won the WCL all-star game home run derby with his father Jim Clark as his pitcher.
Clark's eight home runs in 2014 is the HarbourCats franchise record for home runs in a single season, and has him tied with Alex De Goti (HarbourCats 2013-15) for the career mark.
Clark returned to Victoria in 2015 and hit a home run in a pair of games played before he was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 26th round of the MLB draft. Gabe played his first professional season with the 'Rookie' level Bluefield Blue Jays, tallying six home runs and 22 RBIs in 37 games.
The Canadians open their season on the road against the Spokane Indians on June 17 and play their home opener at historic Nat Bailey Stadium on Monday, June 20 against the Everett AquaSox, the short-season affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
For HarbourCats fans who would like to see Clark play in Vancouver, the Canadians play 38 home games at Nat Bailey Stadium between June 20 and September 2.
The HarbourCats are proud of Gabe and excited to have the opportunity to see one of the great HarbourCats play professionally so close to home.
The 2016 HarbourCats play a doubleheader in Kelowna against the Falcons on Sunday evening and then return to Royal Athletic Park on Tuesday, June 14 when they open a series at Royal Athletic Park against the Gresham GreyWolves.
