WCL Victoria HabourCats

HarbourCats Double Wenatchee to Start Series

August 1, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release

WENATCHEE, Wash. -- The Wenatchee heat only served to keep the HarbourCats' bats hot.

Playing in temperatures above 40C to start the game (solid 100F), and after a day of motor coach travel (thank you, Wilson's Transportation and bus driver extraordinaire Larry), the Victoria HarbourCats moved to within two games of the WCL's final playoff spot, the wild card berth, with a 10-5 win over the host AppleSox on Friday night, in front of a crowd of 1,285.

Four-run innings in the second and fourth innings provided the padding, with two runs sandwiched in the third inning. The HarbourCats unleashed 14 hits and made just one error, while the AppleSox committed three errors and scattered 13 hits.

Tei Vanderford (Tennessee) got the win on the mound, coming on in relief of Henry Omana (Cal State-Fullerton) in the third inning and going 2.2 innings of scoreless baseball. Griffin Andreychuk (Seattle U), Austin Guibor (Fresno State), AJ Alcantara (UC-Irvine), Ben Polshuk (Cal Poly) and PJ Floyd (Sacramento State) each had two hits. Scott Jarvis (UCLA) did them one better with a 3-5 night with two runs driven in. Andreychuk, Alcantara, Chase Lambert (Pepperdine) and Jarvis each drove in two runs.

Sean O'Toole earned a four-inning save by limiting Wenatchee to three hits, one walk, one run (earned) and striking out three.

The HarbourCats are 23-22 and face the AppleSox in Wenatchee on Saturday and Sunday, with the heat expected to stick around.

Josh Walker gets the ball for the HarbourCats on Saturday, and all-star Dominic Topoozian is scheduled to go for Victoria on Sunday. RHP Calvin Christiansen of Glendale College has joined the HarbourCats, as has RHP Shawn Andersen of Douglas College.
