Elks Take Game One against Medford 6-5

The Bend Elks took the first game of the 3 game set against the Medford Rogues Friday night at a hot and smokey Harry and David Field in Medford by a score of 6-5. Patrick McGuff got his league leading 7th win of the season, going 6 innings and giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs. McGuff struck out 4 Rogues and now leads the WCL in strikeouts with 53 K's. Harrison Pyatt came in in relief in the 7th and faced 8 Rogues in the 1 2/3 innings he threw, giving up 3 earned runs on 2 hits. Daniel Bies finished the game allowing 2 hits and walking one before getting the last Rouge he faced to ground out into a 6-4-3 double play with bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th to end the game. Bies received his 4 save of the season.

At the plate, both Tyler Davis and Cooper Hummel hit solo home runs to lead off the both the 4th and 8th innings. Davis knocked his 7th homer and Hummel is 3rd of the season.

The Elks continue to lead the South with a now 32-13 record and now lead the Corvallis Knights by 7 games, and their magic number for clinching the South Division and a playoff spot is now at 2. Game 2 is set for 6:35 from Harry and David field Saturday night.
