Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders dropped the first game of their weekend series with Hannibal tonight 9-0 at Clemens Field in Hannibal, MO. The Cavemen scored one run in each of the first three innings tonight on Zach Wendorf, the Sliders' starter, who was making his season debut tonight. Three more Hannibal runs scored in the fifth inning, signaling the end of Wendorf's day. Hannibal would add one more in the bottom of the sixth, and two more in the bottom of the eighth, but the story tonight was Hannibal's starting pitcher Kris Gardner. He did not give up a hit until a bloop single by CF Wade Rothermich in the fourth inning and just gave up three hits all night. On the night he went seven shutout innings, giving up just those three hits, with no walks, and twelve strikeouts. With the win, Gardner has won all four of his starts on the season, and hasn't given up a run in either of his last two starts. Overall, Hannibal pitching would strikeout eighteen Sliders' batters and surrender just four hits. The Sliders wrap up the first half of the 2012 season tomorrow when they take on Hannibal again, at 6:35. The game will be broadcast live on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.
