NECBL New England Collegiate Baseball League

Hanley, Willeman Haul in Week 4 NECBL Honors

June 29, 2015 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) News Release

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - After leading the league in hits and sharing the league lead in saves across three dominant outings, Laconia infielder Cameron Hanley (Northeastern) and Keene right-hander Zach Willeman (Kent State) have been named the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Hanley's efforts helped Laconia post five wins in a busy eight-game week, as the Muskrats soared into first place in the North Division during that stretch. Willeman, meanwhile, helped Keene lock down a pair of victories and was perfect in three separate relief outings.

Finishing the week 11-for-31 with a .355 batting average, Hanley led the league in total hits last week and was an RBI short of the league lead as well, finishing with seven RBIs. Overall, he scored four runs, drew one walk, and added a stolen base while appearing in all eight games for the Muskrats.

On the year, the left-handed-hitting Hanley has gone 23-for-62 (.371) at the plate. The rising junior at Northeastern has scored six runs, driven in 12 more and has knocked in three doubles, as well.

Willeman, meanwhile, becomes the first reliever to garner Pitcher of the Week recognition this summer. His numbers have been gaudy to date, but last week he was brilliant, setting down all eight batters he faced over 2-2/3 innings and three separate games. He picked up two saves in that span while fanning two across those perfect, scoreless frames.

Despite being pegged with two tough losses (0-2), Willeman has been one of the league's elite relievers this season, as indicative of his 0.75 ERA over nine appearances with 23 strikeouts, two walks and 0.196 batting average against. He hasn't given up a hit since June 17.
