Alabama Hammers News Release

Utilizing a swarming defense that produced four interceptions and an offense that produced seven touchdowns by air and one on the ground, the Alabama Hammers put a stinging victory on the visiting Sting from Saginaw 55-40 Saturday night at the Von Braun Center.

"We didn't play or execute very well, but it was good enough to win the game and I guess that's what we're here to do," said Scott Sharp head coach of the Hammers.

Quarterback Garrett Sutphen hit for seven touchdowns spread throughout his receiving corps with Mico McSwain pulling in three scores and two each by Tyrone Hendrix and Justin Kenyon. McSwain had 13 catches in all for 149 yards. The lone score by rush came in the third quarter by Ervin McMcGuire. On defense, Justin Broome hauled in two INTs, while Svante Davenport and Gini Ibe had one INT each. Davenport had nine tackles on the game.

Although the game was close 21-18 at halftime, the Hammers basically dominated the remainder of the game, though did give up a missed field return for a score and a late score by the Sting to make the final score seem tighter.

"We had some kicking miscues and we need to get better in a lot of areas as we have a tough test coming up next week for sure, but we'll regroup and get ready to roll," added Sharp.

The Hammers (3-1) travel to face the Columbus Lions (3-1) on Saturday, April 25, in a battle for first place in the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL).
