
Hammers fall at home 59-40 to Albany

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Alabama Hammers stayed within striking distance against the Professional Indoor Football League's top team Saturday night, but faded down the stretch in a 59-40 loss to the Albany Panthers before 2,353 fans at the Von Braun Center's Propst Arena.
Albany improved to 8-1 with the Hammers dropping to 2-7
Former Viper Tony Colston completed 17 of 34 passes for 128 yards and four touchdowns in his first start for the Hammers, while Cecil Lester threw for 288 yards and six scores as he torched the Alabama secondary while connecting on 20 of 34 attempts.
Thomas Harris had three touchdown catches for Alabama and Antwone Savage paced Albany with six receptions for 112 yards and two scores.
Alabama trailed 27-16 at halftime and was down 39-33 heading to the fourth quarter following Jamie Whitworth's 33-yard field goal. Colston's 10-yard touchdown pass to Charles McClain made it a 45-40 game with just more than 10 minutes left in regulation before back-to-back scores by the visitors put the game away down the stretch.
The Hammers have next weekend off before hosting Richmond on June 2.
