Alabama Hammers News Release

The Alabama Hammers, winners of three consecutive games, visit Nashville on Monday, June 2, and will face the first place Venom with a chance to cut into the Venom's two-game lead in the American Division.

"We will face a versatile team in Nashville as the Venom are dynamic on offense and just as explosive on defense," said Dean Cokinos head coach of the Hammers. "For us, we really need to put forth 60 minutes of solid football and continue playing better and eliminate negative plays."

This will be the third meeting between the two teams separated by 100 miles along Interstate 65. The Hammers hosted the Venom in the season opener in March, but lost 57-40. The Hammers took its game to the Music City two weeks later, but again came up on the short end against Venom 59-29. The Venom (5-2) average 52-points per game and own a two-game lead over Alabama, Columbus and Georgia. The Hammers are lighting up the scoreboard with 47-points per game.

The Hammers (3-4) are coming off a tough defensive battle against Georgia last week before posting a 39-21 victory over the visiting Fire. Cokinos was pleased with most of the Hammers' performance in the win, especially on defense. He said, "It was good to see the defense control the tempo of the game and the offense made the plays under pressure, which is vital in the arena game."

The game versus the Venom, with a 7 p.m. kickoff at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium, will be available on the Hammers Radio Network, which is broadcast on WAFN-FM, 92.7 Fun Radio-Arab, WZZN-FM, 97.7 The Zone-Huntsville and WWIC-AM, 1050-Scottsboro. Michael St. John and Steve Moulton will handle the play-by-play.
