Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC continues into their 2015 USL regular season on Friday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m. ET as they welcome the Charlotte Independence to Legion Stadium.
The Hammerheads enter their second match of the regular season following a 2-2 draw versus the Richmond Kickers over the weekend. Troy Cole and Justin Moose tallied the first two goals of the season for Wilmington within minutes of one another during the first half. Moose was later selected to USL's Team of the Week for his recent performance.
"We learned a lot from last weekend," said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Technical Director and Head Coach Carson Porter. "We did a lot of good things and we also made mistakes. Training has been very sharp this week, the guys are itching for Friday night and I'm sure it will be an entertaining game."
Charlotte travels to Wilmington to take the pitch at Legion Stadium for the first time during the club's inaugural season. The Independence took to the field for their franchise opener at Transamerica Field last Friday resulting in a 3-2 loss versus the Charleston Battery. Midfielder Jack Thompson and forward Ryan Finley provided the scoring for the Independence.
"Charlotte is a new team with a good coach and a good front office that I know has worked very hard to put together a good group of players," said Porter. "They are talented and ambitious and we are looking forward to another chance to compete."
This will be the first of three meetings between Charlotte and Wilmington during the regular season. The teams are scheduled to meet again early in September for back-to-back matches, home and away. Friday's match will be broadcast live from Legion Stadium on the Hammerheads' YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/WilmHammerheadsFC.
