Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads will travel north for a two-match weekend as they are scheduled to play the Rochester Rhinos on Friday, July 19 at Sahlen's Stadium, then the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Sunday, July 21 at Highmark Stadium. Kick off is slated for 7:35 p.m. versus Rochester on Friday and 3:00 p.m. against Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Following this weekend, the Hammerheads will be left with six matches to play in the regular season. Of those six matches, only one is scheduled on the road in Dayton, leaving the Hammerheads to increase their chances of playoffs with home field advantage at Legion Stadium.
"We've finished majority of our road matches early on this season," said Wilmington Head Coach David Irving. "Our eye is on six points this weekend and we are looking to finish strong these next four weeks coming when we will be spending majority of our time at Legion."
Wilmington (6-9-3) is currently tied with Pittsburgh (5-6-6) for the ninth position in the USL PRO rankings. The Hammerheads need to be in the top eight slots to be included in the playoffs. Rochester (3-8-8) currently holds the 12th position.
The Hammerheads are picking up after a loss versus the Charlotte Eagles last weekend on the road. After a goal by Hammerheads midfielder Daniel Steres in the 6th minute, the Eagles' Paul Islas came back to tie the match before halftime. Wilmington took the lead again in the 63rd minute from a Kyle Greig goal, but the lead did not last long as Charlotte's Jorge Herrera equalized the match once more five minutes later. The Eagles ultimately walked off with the 3-2 victory following the final goal by Christian Meza in the remaining six minutes of the game.
Fans can watch all the action from Sahlen's Stadium and Highmark Stadium this weekend via UNATION at www.uslnation.com. The Wilmington Hammerheads will be hosting a Watch Party for both Friday and Sunday's match ups at Buffalo Wild Wings on Old Eastwood Road in Wilmington.
