Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release
Katy, TX - The Corpus Christi Hammerheads (2-3) came into Saturday nights game with a two game win streak and were looking to make a statement against the Houston Stallions (6-0). Instead the Hammerheads exited the game with more questions then answers.
Corpus Christi started the game off well when QB Anthony Andre capped off a five play drive when he hit Keith Smith with a 15 yard touchdown strike for the games first score. However, it would be the only lead of the night the Hammerheads would hold. Houston rattled off 21 unanswered points and took advantage of 6 Corpus Christi turnovers in route to the 55 point win.
"I felt confident coming in that we could do some things offensively and that our defense would be able to get some stops", said Hammerheads Head Coach Dustin Almond. "It just ended up being one of those nights that everything that could go wrong did and certainly indicates we have a lot of work to do before next week".
Stallions QB Robert Kent continued to show why he is the top passer in the league going 16-23 for 276 yards and 7 scores in three plus quarters. The only thing that slowed down Kent's path to a 300 plus yard night was when he was replaced by back up QB Ryan Ferguson in the 4th Quarter.
The Hammerheads secondary also didn't seem to have an answer for WR Timon Marshall who had a game high105 yards receiving and 3 TD's. "He's really talented and we need to find an answer to slow him down before next Saturday night", said Corpus Christi DB Henry Hall.
The Hammerheads will have to figure out the answers to all there questions in short order as these two teams will rematch this Saturday night at the American Bank Center. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster, Ticketmaster.com, The American Bank Center Box Office or by calling the Hammerheads office at (361)814-PASS (7277). Game time Saturday is set for 7:05pm and can be heard locally on Sports Radio Corpus Christi, 1230am, beginning at 6:45pm.
