Hammerheads Look to Sink Swashbucklers

Corpus Christi, TX - The Corpus Christi Hammerheads (5-5) return to the American Bank Center Sunday afternoon against the Louisiana Swashbucklers (9-2) with a couple of goals in mind. Avenge last weeks loss in Lake Charles and, more importantly, clinch a spot in the 2011 SIFL playoffs.
Last week the Hammerheads played well in the first half against the Swashbucklers taking a 35-33 lead into the locker room at halftime. However, things slipped away from Corpus Christi in the third quarter when the team committed two turnovers that were returned for two quick scores propelling Louisiana to the win.
The third quarter struggles were nothing new to the team. Corpus Christi has struggled coming out of the half all season long scoring just 51 points on the season in the third frame. "It's hard to explain", said Corpus Christi Head Coach Dustin Almond. "It's just not one thing that you can put your finger on and fix but somehow, we need to reverse the trend".
Almond was not totally disappointed in his team's performance last week and found a number of things to build upon heading into the rematch this week. "I think we did a great job mixing things up on offense, they seemed confused quite a bit during the game as to what we were doing". Almond went on to add that he's "looking to add some more wrinkles this week".
The Hammerheads will be attempting to clinch a playoff berth for the second straight week. Corpus Christi can clinch a spot with either a win or a Rio Grande Valley loss against the Abilene Ruff Riders.
Kickoff for Sunday's game is set for 4:05pm.
