June 5, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC will host the Oklahoma City Energy on Friday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Legion Stadium. This will be the first and only regular season match between the two teams since the Energy began their inaugural USL PRO season.
The Hammerheads are on a four-game winning streak coming off a 2-1 road win in Charlotte versus the Eagles last weekend. Manu Aparicio and Steven Miller tallied a goal each during the first half of the matchup.
The Energy are also coming off a 1-0 win from a Michael Thomas header in stoppage time against New York Red Bulls Reserves at Pribil Stadium. This is the first victory for the Energy since mid-April after defeating Arizona United FC.
"The team has been playing with a lot of confidence lately," said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Head Coach David Irving. "After a stagnant start at home this season we are beginning to score goals, play better and defend well. We need to continue this winning trend as it is important to capitalize on the home games before going on the road in the upcoming weeks."
The Hammerheads are currently ranked 5th overall in the league standings with the least amount of games played, while the Energy are tied for 10th overall alongside the Eagles.
Following Friday's match at Legion Stadium, Oklahoma City travels to Charlotte to take on the Eagles on Saturday, June 7 at Queens Sports Complex.
