Hammerheads Face Back to Back In-State Games

Wilmington, NC- After a successful win at home against Harrisburg, the Hammerheads face back to back games against the Charlotte Eagles this weekend. Friday, July 22, the Hammerheads and the Eagles kickoff at 7:45pm at Charlotte Christian Stadium, then the two teams will return to Legion Stadium for the 7:30 kickoff in Wilmington on Saturday night.
The Hammerheads and the Eagles have met twice this year, once in league play in Charlotte, and also in the second round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup at Legion Stadium. The two teams have split wins this year; the Eagles defeated the Hammerheads 3-0 in league action back in June, and the Hammerheads advanced to the third round of the Open Cup past the Eagles with a 3-2 overtime victory.
While the Eagles have remained a tough competitor to Wilmington, the Hammerheads currently have more wins on their 2011 record and are also are five points ahead of the Eagles in the USL PRO standings.
The Eagles enter Friday night's game at home after back to back 2-1 losses against the Richmond Kickers and also a 1-1 draw against the Harrisburg City Islanders last weekend. The Hammerheads defeated the City Islanders at Legion Stadium 3-1 just a day after the Eagles drew the tie.
Due to an accumulation of penalties this season and a red card violation against the Battery on July 14th, Hammerhead defender Gareth Evans will have to sit out Friday's game against the Eagles, but will be allowed to return to the lineup for the match up the following day at Legion Stadium.
Saturday night the Hammerheads are hosting a "Pink Out" at Legion Stadium. The players will be wearing pink jerseys in support of the Medical Center Foundation's Pink Ribbon Project and early detection and awareness of breast cancer. Prior to the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off and the proceeds of the auction will go directly to the Pink Ribbon Project. Fans are encouraged to get to the game early to participate in the auction and to wear pink to show their support.
