Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 9, 2012) - The Jupiter Hammerheads used a seven-run third inning to defeat the Fort Myers Miracle 10-4 in the finale of a three-game series on Monday.
The Hammerheads scored all seven runs in the third against Matt Hauser and sent Fort Myers to its fourth consecutive loss.
Minnesota Twins closer Matt Capps pitched a scoreless first for the Miracle in a rehab start before turning the game over to Hauser.
The Hammerheads went to work against Hauser in the third, at one point registering four consecutive RBI hits. Aaron Dudley did the most damage by ripping a two-run double to right to make it 6-1.
The Hammerheads added one more in the third and another off of Hauser in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead, but the Miracle battled back.
Joe Benson, another player on a rehab assignment, belted a two-run double in the seventh, and after Levi Michael doubled to right, Benson scored on a ground out to make it 8-4. However, the rally ended when Kyle Knudson, who was 2 for 2 with a pair of singles, was struck out by Tyler Higgins with Michael at third.
Aaron Dudley got two of the runs back for the Hammerheads in the ninth with a two-run home run off of Nelvin Fuentes. Dudley went 4 for 5 and finished a triple shy of the cycle.
Sean Donatello gave up one run in three innings to earn the victory for Jupiter.
Juan Oviedo, formerly known as Leo Nunez, pitched a 1-2-3 first inning in a rehab start for the Miami Marlins.
Emilio Bonifacio, who was also appearing in a rehab stint for the Marlins, went 0 for 5 with two strike outs.
Hauser allowed 10 hits and eight runs, six earned, in four innings.
The Miracle are off Tuesday and will return to action on Wednesday at Clearwater to start a four-game series with the Threshers. First pitch on Wednesday is set for 7 p.m.
