Moncton Magic News Release
The Moncton Magic traveled to Halifax Saturday night for game five of the Atlantic Division Finals. Previously, the Hurricanes took the first two at home, with the Magic then responding with a win at the Coliseum, to which Halifax in turn took another in Moncton.
Saturday night began with a quick run from the home team who came out strong creating a 25-19 lead after the 1st , and extending that to +10 at half. The Magic maintained but could not cut that lead beyond seven in the 3rd. The 4th brought some new energy to the visitors who quickly made it a three point game. The Hurricanes did not let up after that; they created and averaged a 6-point lead in the last 12 minutes and took the series with a 95-87 victory.
Though some fans may have assumed that these two teams would face off in this series it was a rocky road. The Magic went through a number of roster changes throughout the season, all the while being forced to overcome the adversity that new teams face. Despite a short time to prepare, as first year squad they had some unbelievable (and entertaining) successes and did incredibly well to finish in second and make it this far. Its possible and maybe even likely that with a few tweaks and system developments, their shot at the final next year will be concrete.
The Magic were led on Saturday by yearlong 'Mr. Dependable' AKA Terry 'T.Time' Thomas with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 22 points. Just trailing Terry was league all time star Anthony Anderson with 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 18 points. Late season game-defining X-factor Corey Allmond was up next with 3 assists and 12 points.
Defensively dominant Denzell Taylor was Moncton's Player of the Game for taking on the role of hero in the paint with 13 rebounds (9 offensive) and 8 points. Taylor held strong in a tough game and did his absolute best to give the Magic some second attempts.
The Hurricanes were led again by Antoine Mason who put up 26 points. In the following order Tyrone Watson, Rhamel Brown, and Billy White had 17, 15 & 15 for the home team.
With this win Halifax will now go on to play the winner of the Central Division Finals, currently sitting at 3-2 for the London Lightening who will have a chance to close this series out on Sunday.
