October 10, 2012 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) - Halifax Rainmen News Release

The Halifax Rainmen are extremely pleased to announce the signing former London Lightning Point Guard Eddie Smith.

"We are thrilled that Eddie is coming to Halifax," said Halifax Rainmen president and CEO, Andre Levingston. "Eddie could have easily been the League's MVP last season. He not only has the outstanding ability to be a team player, but to also has the ability to put a team on his back and win big basketball games."

Smith, a 6'3'' 190-pound NBL Canada All-Star, played a key role in winning London's NBL Canada championship title last season. Smith took home the NBL Canada's Sixth Man of the Year award after averaging 17.2 points per game for London, despite starting in fewer than 50 per cent of games Smith also led the Lightning with 60 steals in the regular season.

The signing of Smith will strengthen the Rainmen's back court as he joins All-Stars Joey Haywood and Brandon Robinson on the team's roster.

"I'm very happy to be joining the Halifax Rainmen," said Smith. "The Rainmen are a great organization and Halifax is a great city. I'm looking forward to becoming part of the community and meeting the incredible Rainmen fans who I played in front of last season. I am committed to working with my team mates to help bring it an NBL Championship to Halifax!"

Smith will be reporting to Halifax Rainmen training camp Thursday, October 11. The Rainmen will host a pre season game Sunday October 21st at 2 pm at the Halifax Metro Center vs The Summerside Storm. The Rainmen will open their regular season on Saturday November 10th when they tip-off against the Saint John Mill Rats at the Halifax Metro Centre for 7 p.m.
