LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, announced infielder Mitchell Gunsolus as the inaugural winner of the team's "Lowell Spinners Community MVP" award, presented prior to the team's final home game September 7.

The award, to be given annually, will be awarded to the player or coach whose involvement in the Merrimack Valley community goes above and beyond.

Gunsolus, a native of Kenmore, Wash., was among the most involved Spinners players in the community this season. In addition to volunteering as an instructor at Lowell Spinners Baseball Camp, Gunsolus made numerous community appearances at nursing homes, hospitals, day camps and more.

"Despite the limited amount of downtime in the schedule, particularly for those players arriving right after a college season, Mitch was always one of the first volunteers to do any community appearance or event," said Spinners President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. "Not only did he volunteer, but he was such a great representation of the organization and we consistently received comments about what a great presence he had at events."

A 10th round selection in the 2015 First-Year Player draft out of Gonzaga, Gunsolus appeared in 49 games with the Spinners, batting .225 with one home run and 21 runs batted in, playing predominately at third base.

Prior to the start of the season's final game, Gunsolus was presented a check for $250 by Spinners President and General Manager Tim Bawmann and Assistant General Manager Jon Boswell as part of receiving the honor.

"We have been very fortunate to have a number of great guys when it comes to the community over the years," said Bawmann. "We look forward to presenting this award each season as a small token of appreciation each year going forward."
