NEWPORT, R.I. - Host families are the foundation of the Newport Gulls, and the organization is searching for a few more to take in players for the upcoming 2016 season.

"Gulls host families have opened their homes to our players and coaches, who have come from all over the country for the summer in hopes of chasing their dreams of becoming Major League Baseball players," said Newport Gulls General Manager Chuck Paiva. "We are so thankful to have such wonderful families that give our players and coaches the same care and attention that they give their own children. The relationships that are forged between our players and their hosts are memorable, and will last a lifetime."

In addition to the rewards of forming a life-long relationship with a player, the Newport Gulls thank their host families with a very special free Host Family Package, including all of the following:

- 2016 season passes for all family members

- Kids can attend all Summer Camps for free

- Host family T-shirts for kids

- Annual host family, team and parent BBQ

- Host Family Recognition Night and BBQ at Cardines Field on August 1

- Invitation to team-related special events

- Game day bat boys and bat girls are designated for host families, and are permitted to sit in the dugout with the team

- Most importantly, the opportunity to meet and get to know one of the Gulls - great role models and potential Major League Baseball players

"Our host family program is the foundation that the team is built on," said Paiva. "It all starts with our host families, and without them it would not be possible to operate the team. Year to year, we will lose host families for various reasons, and we get new families interested in the program, as well."

"The foundational influence and support of our host families is a key reason for the Gulls being considered the premier summer collegiate baseball team in the country," Paiva said. "My own family has been a Gulls host family for the last 15 years. My kids have grown up with the Gulls as part of their lives each summer. The positive experience and impact hosting these outstanding young gentlemen has had on my own family is immeasurable."

If your family is interested in becoming a host family for the 2016 summer season, email General Manager Chuck Paiva at gm@newportgulls.com for more information or call 401-849-4982.
