Newport Gulls News Release
NEWPORT, R.I. - The Newport Gulls season is rapidly approaching as we are just a few days out from Wednesday's Opening Night at Cardines Field. The Gulls schedule features 22 exciting promotions throughout the season including Newport Hospital Opening Night, Town of Middletown 275th Anniversary Night, Aspire Dermatology Red Sox Night, UnitedHealthcare Christmas in July, American Heroes Night, and Raytheon Military Appreciation Night, among many notable others.
Wednesday, June 6 will be Opening Night at Cardines field as the Gulls take on the Mystic Schooners, pregame festivities beginning at 6:15 p.m. As is tradition, the first 1,000 fans to the ballpark will receive a Magnet Schedules for the 2018 Gulls season. Opening Night is one of the most anticipated events of the year for the fans, the players, and the community as it marks the unofficial beginning of summer here in the City-By-the-Sea!
For the first Friday night game of the season the Town of Middletown will sponsor the Gulls match-up versus the North Adams SteepleCats in celebration of its 275th anniversary. Don't miss the opportunity to receive one of 250 T-Shirts being given out at the ballpark courtesy of Middletown.
Newport is also excited to announce its first-ever Red Sox Night which will take place on Monday, June 25. The evening festivities will include appearances by Boston Red Sox legend Bill "Spaceman" Lee and Boston's mascot "Wally." Joining the two will be Pawtucket Red Sox mascots Paws and Sox. Be sure to get to the park early, as the first 250 fans in attendance will receive Stadium Cups courtesy of Aspire Dermatology.
July 2 will mark the second annual UnitedHealthcare "Christmas in July" for the Gulls, which was a huge success last season. The Gulls brought in a season high attendance of 2,876 fans and over 200 toy donations were made. With the donation of a toy, families earn free admission (4) to the game against the Upper Valley Nighthawks.
American Heroes Night and Raytheon Military Appreciation Night are always special evenings at Cardines Field. American Heroes Night is an opportunity for the Gulls to recognize Police, Firefighters and EMT's, all of which will be offered free admission to the ballpark on July 18. Military Appreciation Night follows two days later as the Gulls honor those who have fought for our freedom. All military personnel will receive free admission courtesy of Raytheon Company.
The 2018 schedule is action packed with 17 other promotions for home games, and the Gulls are excited to bring the fun as they begin their 18th season here in Newport!
