Guentzel Commits to Notre Dame

Sioux Falls, SD- The Sioux Falls Stampede announced today that forward, Ryan Guentzel has committed to the University of Notre Dame for the 2007-08 season. A first year player with the Herd, Guentzel is second on the team in scoring with 27 points (5g, 22a) in 34 games and is a team best +13. He becomes the 14th Stampede player to commit to a Division I program this season.

The Woodbury, MN native has 12 points (2g, 10a) in his last 10 games. When he suites up for the Irish next fall, he will become the fourth Stampede player to wear the gold and blue. Ryan Thang, Justin White and Stewart Carlin are currently all playing with Notre Dame.

The Irish are members of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) and currently the #1 team in the country with a 23-5-2 record. It marks the first time in school history that Notre Dame has been the top ranked team in the country. With three weeks left in the regular season, the Fighting Irish hold a four point lead over Michigan for first place in the CCHA.

Guentzel and the Stampede return to action Saturday night in Des Moines when they face the Buccaneers. The Herd return home this Sunday at 4:05 PM against arch rival Sioux City.
