Orlando Rays News Release
Sevierville, Tenn. - Dan Grummitt did what he could to spark Orlando's dormant offense but it wasn't nearly enough, as the Tennessee Smokies pounded out 13 hits en route to a 7-2 win over the Rays Monday.
Grummitt launched a pair of solo home runs off Smokies' starter Nick Stocks (2-0), but the rest of the Rays were kept off the scoreboard. Dan DeMent added two hits for the Rays, who fell for the 11th straight game, all on the current road trip. Jim Magrane (2-2) took the loss, as Tennessee pounded the Rays' starter for 6 runs on 8 hits over 5.0 innings.
The series and the road trip concludes tomorrow at 11:30 AM, as the Rays send righty Jose Veras (0-2, 3.24) to the mound against RHP Jeremy Cummings (2-2, 4.64). Orlando returns home for an eight game home stand starting Thursday against the Birmingham Barons.
