
BayBears bounce back to defeat the Lookouts

Chattanooga, Ten. â The Mobile BayBears, coming off a game in which the Lookouts routed them, returned the favor Monday night, winning in Chattanooga, 9-3. Mobile pounded out season highs with 18 hits and those nine runs. BayBears starter Roger Deago (3-0) threw a solid six and one-third innings allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out six.
The BayBears plated four runs in the first inning, capped by a two-run double by Bobby Scales. Ben Johnson also drove in a run on one of his three hits on the night.
Todd Donovan led off the second with his first of two homeruns in the game making the score 5-0. His second came in his next at bat, in the fourth, giving Mobile a 6-0 lead. Donovan, the Mobile lead off hitter, now leads the BayBears with four homers.
After Chattanooga scored a single run in their half of the sixth, the BayBears answered right back with three of their own in the seventh, extending their lead to 9-1. Deago drove in his first run of the season with a base hit and Vince Faison drove in two more with a two-run double. Faison became just the second BayBear this season to collect four hits in a game. Also, for the first time this season every player in the Mobile starting lineup had at least one hit.
Deago gave up a two-run homer to Ray Olmedo in the bottom of the seventh inning, before being lifted for reliever Alan Webb. Webb and Bryan Gaal threw the final two and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball securing the easy win for the BayBears.
Mobile (11-13) and Chattanooga (7-17) wrap up their four-game series Tuesday night at 6:15. RHP Steve Watkins (1-1; 3.08) will start on the hill for the BayBears against Lookouts LHP John Koronka (1-2; 3.60).
