Grizzlies Rolled in Series Opener at Florence
June 24, 2022 - Frontier League (FL)
Gateway Grizzlies News Release
The Gateway Grizzlies saw their four-game win streak snapped on Friday night in a 14-2 loss to the Florence Y'alls at Thomas More Stadium in Florence on Friday night.
Florence used back-to-back homers by Brennan Price and Anthony Brocato to take a 4-0 lead in the first inning, a lead that was cut in half by the Grizzlies thanks to a two-out rally in the top of the second. Jay Prather reached on an error and Jose Rosario singled to bring up former Florence catcher Jackson Pritchard, who brought both runners home with a triple to make it 4-2.
But the Grizzlies' pitching staff could not stop the Florence offense all night long, as they scored in each of their first four innings while building an 8-2 advantage, then added six late runs for the final margin, amassing 18 hits and five home runs in total to take the series opener from the Grizzlies.
A bright spot on the mound was Lukas Veinbergs, as the rookie from the University of Missouri pitched four and two-thirds innings to save the rest of the Grizzlies' bullpen for later in the series.
Gateway will look to bounce back from the rough defeat on Saturday, June 25, at 5:36 p.m. CT. Steven Ridings will pitch for the Grizzlies against Florence's Grant Hockin in the middle game of the weekend road series.
