
Grizzlies, 1380 AM ESPN Radio renew broadcast deal

The Gateway Grizzlies and 1380 AM ESPN Radio announced today that the two have reached a broadcast agreement for the station to continue as the flagship station of the Gateway Grizzlies radio network for the next two seasons. The 2007 season will mark the station's third season as the Grizzlies' flagship station.
Simmons Media Group, the parent company of 1380 ESPN Radio, launched the station as 1380 ESPN in June 2004. The Grizzlies are part of a strong baseball lineup on the station. 1380 ESPN is the home of Major League Baseball's regular season, All-Star Game, Playoffs and World Series in St. Louis.
"The relationship between 1380 ESPN and the Gateway Grizzlies has been a great partnership and we look forward to working with them once again," 1380 ESPN Program Director Dave Greene said. "We enjoy working with their management and broadcast teams. We always know we will be dealing with quality people who will deliver a first class broadcast to the audience."
The station features a mix of local and national talent. Local personalities include Bernie Miklasz, Randy Karraker and Howard Balzer. National personalities include, Dan Patrick and Jim Rome.
"We have enjoyed working with 1380 ESPN," Grizzlies General Manager Tony Funderburg said. "They are a strong sports station in St. Louis, and we are proud to be a small part of that."
Once again, nearly every game in 2006 and 2007 will be heard on 1380 ESPN Radio. Exceptions include Sunday evenings when 1380 carries Major League Baseball on the ESPN Radio Network, and other network obligations. On those nights the Grizzlies will shift to 1490 AM WESL. Simmons Media Group also operates WESL AM.
The Grizzlies will once again utilize a multi-station network to broadcast all 96 games. Details of the network will be announced at a later date.
Joe Pott will return in 2007 for his sixth full season behind the microphone as "Voice of the Grizzlies." Pott has been a part of Grizzlies broadcasts since the team's inception, and has earned recognition as the Frontier League's Broadcaster of the Year in each of the past two seasons.
The Gateway Grizzlies begin their seventh anniversary season in the Frontier League Wednesday May 23rd when new division-foe Southern Illinois, come to town. Season tickets and mini-plans are currently on sale.
