Grissom's First NAHL Goal, Kossoff's 3rd Shutout Lift Ice Miners over Ice Dogs

Keystone Ice Miners News Release

CONNELLSVILLE, PA - LordAnthony Grissom became the fourth Ice Miner this week to net his first NAHL goal and he couldn't have picked a better time to get it. Grissom's goal at 18:30 of the 3rd period broke a scoreless tie between Keystone and Fairbanks and helped lift the Ice Miners to a 2-0 shutout of the defending Robertson Cup champs Friday night at the Ice Mine.

Ice Miners goaltender Nick Kossoff was the story of the first 40 minutes, stopping 17 first period shots and 9 in the second to keep the game scoreless. Fairbanks' Patrick Munson kept pace, stopping all 15 Keystone attempts through two. Grissom's goal came after Munson had lost his goal-stick and was playing with a defenseman's. Jacob Coleman carried the puck into the zone, and found his brother A.J., who set up Grissom for a one-timer that beat Munson to the glove side. After a Fairbanks timeout, the Ice Miners added a strange empty-netter as Alex Archibald banked the puck off the boards and all the way down past a retreating John Teets and just accros the goal line. Kossoff made 29 saves for his third shutout of the season. Munson stopped 28 in the loss.

The win was Keystone's fourth in a row and it was the first time Fairbanks has been blanked in 2014-15. The same two teams will complete the Alaska series Saturday afternoon with a 4:00 PM start. All female guests in attendance will save $1 off admission as part of "Ladies Night."
