Grey Cup Events Planned

NOVEMBER 20 KICK-OFF EVENT - "WEAR YOUR WOOLLIES"
* City Hall - 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
* Free!
* Alcohol free, family oriented event featuring activities for youngsters and adults
* The official Opening Ceremonies of Grey Cup 2002 will get under way at 6:15 p.m. with Bryan Hall, the "Voice of the Eskimos" as Master of Ceremonies
* 90 member St. Albert Vital Grandin Youth Choir will sing Oh Canada prior to the official opening of Grey Cup 2002 by Mayor Bill Smith, Bill Gardner, Chairman Grey Cup 2002 Inc and David Braley, Acting CFL Commissioner
* Outdoor Activities for the evening will include free Hayrides around City Hall, a mascot Football Game with 15 mascots participating and play-by-play by Bryan Hall. There will be interactive games in Sir Winston Churchill Square including a football throw and field goal kicking.
* Those who enjoy indoor activities will be entertained by the Klondike Revue and Cheerleading demonstrations

* Grey Cup 2002 Inc. have partnered with the City of Edmonton to bring the CFL Hall of Fame to Edmonton. The display will be set up for viewing at the Kick-off Event and remain at City Hall through to November 23. The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame will also have displays in City Hall during this time period.
* Thanks to M and M Meats, Pizza 73 and Tim Hortons we'll be offering free hot dogs, pizza, timbits, soft drinks, hot chocolate and coffee.
* We'll close out the evening with a fireworks display at around 9:00 p.m.
* Free Wild n' Woolly scarves will be given to the first 2500 people in attendance.

NOVEMBER 19 - 23 CITY HALL ACTIVITIES
* City Room, City Hall, 9:00 a.m. to 8 p.m.
* Free
* The Grey Cup trophy will be on display at City Hall for one hour each day from noon until 1 p.m. Hall of Famer autograph sessions will also take place at this time.
* The Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum will showcase artifacts highlighting the Edmonton Eskimo dynasty years, the evolution of football equipment, and the history of the Grey Cup including the first two bases the Grey Cup trophy was on.
* CFL Hall of Fame and Museum will also have two interactive computer exhibits: the first one profiling the photos and biographies of the 204 honoured members of the Hall of Fame, and the second showing Grey Cup winning team photos from 1909 to the present.
* The CFL Hall of Fame's gift shop will also be on site for those fans wishing to order re-prints of photos and purchase souvenirs.
* The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum will showcase Rollie Miles, the Edmonton Eskimos from the 1950s and the 1948 Calgary Stampeders.
* The public is also encouraged to bring down their old sports equipment and donate it to Sports Central during the Stuff a Locker equipment drive that takes place during the week. Drop-off bins will be available inside City Hall and all equipment or tax-deductible cash donations are gratefully accepted.
* Local art students will be at City Hall working on a special kid's sport mural commissioned by Sports Central and sponsored by United Cycle during the week. The mural entitled Waiting to Take the Field reflects the importance that Edmontonians place on our children in our community. It will eventually be installed along 118 Avenue as part of the Alberta Avenue Murals in Action program.

* This annual event recognizes the top players in the CFL in the east and the west.
* Warren Moon will host the 2002 CFL Outstanding Player Awards.
* Many of the CFL Outstanding Players of yesterday will be in attendance to present awards to the CFL Outstanding Players of today. Outstanding Players presenting awards will include Henry (Gizmo) Williams, Willie Pless, Glen Suitor, John Wells, Eric Upton, Bill Stevenson, Rod Connup, Hector Pothier, Tom Wilkinson, Jackie Parker, Don Getty, Normie Kwong and Brian Kelley. Other presenters include Wes Montgomery, Bryan Hall, Chris Cuthbert and David Braley, Acting CFL Commissioner.

* Nine teams of senior public school students from across Canada will compete for the 4th annual Reebok NFL/CFL Flag Football Championship. Winner of this national tournament will represent Canada at the 2003 NFL Flag Football World Championships in Japan.

NOVEMBER 23 FORD GREY CUP PARADE
* Themed "A Salute to Football" - 12:00 noon

* Have over 87 entries in the parade including floats, marching bands, fan groups and cheer teams from across Canada.
* The 2002 Ford Grey Cup Parade Marshall's include the legendary Jackie Parker who starred with the Eskimos from 1954 - 1962 and the Eskimos own Gizmo Williams, hailed as the greatest kick returner in pro football.
* One lucky person, through the Ford Leader of the Pack contest will win the opportunity to be the Honorary Parade Marshall - sharing duties with Jackie and Gizmo. The lucky winner will be announced on Wednesday, November 20 at the Kick-off Party at City Hall.
* The parade will wind through downtown Edmonton starting at 96 Street and 102nd Avenue, proceeding west on 102nd Avenue to 105th Street, north on 105th Street to 103rd Avenue and east on 103rd Avenue to 97th Street.
* Traffic Flow
* North of Jasper Avenue to south of 103A Avenue from 95 Street to 97 Street will be closed at 10:30 a.m. Traffic flow should be restored to the area by 2:30 p.m.

* The two-hour show will include some amazing young, local talent as well as the incredible talent of 9 CFL Cheer Teams.
* Junior and senior cheerleading at its finest plus a whole new level of performance by cheer teams that now include stunts, gymnastics and acrobatics in their routines.
* The Klondike Revue and Saskatchewan Rough Riders Pep Band form the pre-show starting at 7:00 p.m. with the Extravaganza running 7:30-9:00 p.m.
* The Extravaganza focuses on the development of CFL Cheerleaders from ages 4 and up.
* The line-up includes pre-school dancers, an elementary school age cheer team and dance team, a junior high school age cheer team and dance team and a senior high school age cheer team and dance team.
* Routines by eight CFL Cheer Teams and a mascot show will follow the junior performers.
* A grand finale including all 8 CFL Cheer Teams, an appearance by the Grey Cup and confetti cannons will complete the evening.
* At the end of the performance fans will have the opportunity to mingle with the cheer teams.

NOVEMBER 23 DOWNTOWN LIGHT UP

* Musical and interactive entertainment, lighting of the Tree of Lights, Santa's arrival and fireworks.
* Santa will arrive on stage at 6:00 p.m. to light up the Tree of Lights to mark the beginning of the Christmas season.
* The Tree of Lights is an initiative that the DBA has been helping with for the past 2 years. From November 23 to December 20, the DBA encourages bringing slightly used toys to the Square during the Downtown Light Up celebration and putting them in the big box bedside the Tree of Lights. Volunteers from the Society for Retired and Semi-Retired refurbish the slightly used toys for needy kids and organizations.

* Pregame Show - Emerson Drive, winners of Group of the Year and Rising Star honours at Canadian Country Music Awards, will headline the pregame show along with Edmonton's own Adam Gregory performing Oh Canada. 800 volunteers will perform along with Emerson Drive and Adam Gregory in the pregame show.
* Halftime Show - Super star Shania Twain in her first live Canadian performance in years. Twain will perform new songs including her current hit single "I'm Gonna Getcha Good" from album UP! Twain has won 5 Grammy Awards and 7 Juno Awards. Over 900 volunteers including 300 CFL Cheerleaders will perform with Shania in the halftime show.
* To celebrate their 20th Anniversary, LOTTO 6/49 will draw a $6.49 million dollar winner during halftime. Players from across Canada had the chance to qualify for this opportunity through special sets of Bonus Numbers drawn in October. All bonus players will receive $1,649.00 and Roots Wear clothing. A consolation prize of $2 million will be shared equally between the remaining bonus winners.
* Grey Cup 2002 will be the 90th Anniversary of this great Canadian tradition.
