January 6, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, Texas â The Central Hockey League announced today that Laredo Bucks forward Chris Grenville and defenseman Serge Dube have been selected to the Southern Conference All-Star team as coach's picks. The Bucks have the best record in the CHL at 26-5-2. The 2004 Dodge CHL All-Star Game will take place on January 22nd in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Bucks are home tomorrow night against the Austin Ice Bats. Face off is set for 7:30 p.m. Call (956) 718-BUCKS (2825) for more information or go online at www.laredobucks.com.
Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski will lead the Southern Conference All-Stars in the game. With a myriad of great players to choose from Ruskowski found the selection process to be awful tough.
"I wish I could take four forward lines instead of three and eight defensemen instead of six and four goalies instead of two," said Ruskowski. "There were some tough decisions and I know they are some deserving guys who didn't make the team because of roster size limitations. I want to apologize to the players who didn't get selected and congratulate the players who did."
This is the fourth overall All-Star honor for Grenville and he will be going to the CHL All-Star Game for the second straight season. Last year in Oklahoma City he scored four goals and was selected as the All-Star Game MVP, he also captured the CHL Hardest Shot award.
"It's always an honor to be selected," said Grenville. "With three other players going we are excited to do our best to represent the organization and the City of Laredo well."
Grenville has 18 goals on the year and 35 points in 33 games to rank in the top 20 in scoring in the league. He has been red hot lately with goals in six of the last seven games and he leads the CHL in power play goals with nine. Last year he had 40 goals and 90 points.
Dube is making his first All-Star appearance. He was the third leading vote getter among defenseman in balloting for the Southern Conference starting lineup.
"It's a great honor to be recognized with the other defensemen in the CHL" said Dube. "With âRosco', Bes, Cullaton, and Grenville it's going to be a lot of fun. It's always a good time meeting guys from the other teams."
Dube is currently seventh in the CHL in scoring by defensemen with 24 points and tied for fifth with six goals. He leads the Laredo Bucks defenseman in both points and goals and is plus 17 on the year.
"Serge has had a very solid year," said Ruskowski. "He has been excellent on the power play and he controls the play very well. He knows when to come in for a shot and when not to."
Grenville and Dube will join Bucks forwards Jeff Bes and Brent Cullaton who have been selected to start for the Southern Conference.
