Greenville Drive News Release

The Greenville Drive announced today that they are repeating last year's highly successful Reading All Stars program in Greenville County, and expanding it to Spartanburg District 5 students in grades 3 through 8. The 2008 Drive Reading All-Stars Program saw over 17,000 students participate from 34 elementary and 15 middle schools across Greenville County.

The Drive Reading All-Stars Program encourages education through reading. Participating students are challenged to read a set number of extra-curricular books over a 5-week period. Qualifying students receive a Reading All Stars shirt and free admission to a Drive game in April where they will receive special recognition on field with other Reading All-Stars from across the Community.

Drive president and co-owner, Craig Brown, remarked on the significance of the Reading All-Stars Program, saying, "Reading skills and interest are absolutely critical to a student's ability to succeed, and stay in school, and we're excited about the opportunity to grow this program and our partnership with more schools across the Upstate."

Michelin North America continues their commitment to education as the 2009 title sponsor. Herb Johnson, Director of Community Relations for Michelin North America, noted, "This initiative is a great way for our two organizations to partner around a shared concern and commitment to impact the lives of young people in this community in a positive and lasting way."

The Drive and Michelin will recognize Reading All-Stars from participating schools at Fluor Field before and during games on Tuesday, April 14th and Monday, April 20th. Students will have the opportunity to march onto the field before the game while their schools are recognized on DriveVision, and one student at each game will be chosen to throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch.

Drive General Manager, Mike deMaine, explained, "We are excited about these events and the chance they provide to connect something as important to the young people in this community as reading and education with an experience that is as cool as baseball and professional sports." deMaine added, "Some of the Drive players will be on hand to add their congratulations and encouragement to the students who take part in the recognition game."
