Greensboro Prowlers News Release

GREENSBORO-- The Greensboro Prowlers continued momentum from a key road victory last week in Florida, with a 47-44 win over the Mohegan Wolves. In front of 3,561 on hand at the Greensboro Coliseum, the Prowlers move to 3-1 on the season and sets the franchise marks with two consecutive victories and moving two games over the .500 mark in a season. With the victory, combined with a Norfolk Nighthawks loss, the Prowlers now move into sole possession of first place in the American Conference Atlantic Division.

The Prowlers struck first blood against the Wolves (3-1) with a game-opening 47 yard pass by quarterback Caleb Slover to Bobby Sippio, proving to be the only touchdown for either team in the first half. Greensboro then scored one of the most unusual plays in franchise history, as Demeco Archangel recovered a Bobby Sippio fumble on the Mohegan six-yard line, advancing the ball for a touchdown, putting Greensboro ahead 14-0.

Following a Mohegan field goal and a Anthony Comer 19 yard interception return the Prowlers lead 14-10 at the 5:08 mark. It was at that point that WR/DB Bobby Sippio stepped up his game with two consecutive touchdowns. The first came on a 37-yard pass from Slover, followed by a 22-yard interception return to forge Greensboro ahead 27-10. The Wolves Zac Derr converted a 20-yard field goal in the waning seconds of the second quarter to make the halftime advantage for Greensboro 27-13.

In the third, Ironman of the Game Sigmund Platt scored the Prowlers only touchdown on a 3-yard run, while Mohegan's Anthony Comer scored his second of four touchdowns on the night, with Greensboro leading 33-19 at the end of three quarters. Momentum began to shift in the fourth quarter when Mohegan mounted a run at the Prowlers. Scoring at the 13:14 mark of the fourth, Mohegan's Greg Krause recovered a fumble in the end zone to cut the lead to 33-26. Greensboro then answered with a 5 play, 35-yard drive culminating with a 7-yard pass from Slover, who completed 14-of-26 passes for 208 yards and four touchdowns, to make the lead 40-26. Mohegan would then answer with two consecutive scores, the first coming on a 56-yard kickoff return by Comer, and the second on a 30-yard pass from Ryan Tracey to Lance small, and after missing a critical extra-point attempt, Mohegan trailed 40-38. It was then that Demeco Archangel returned a 57-yard kickoff return to put the Prowlers up 47-38 with just 1:14 remaining. Following a kickoff return by the Wolves Anthony Comer, the Greensboro offense managed to pick up a late pass interference call to ice the 47-44 victory.

The Prowlers return home on Friday, May 2nd, when they face the arch-rival Richmond Speed at the Greensboro Coliseum. Greensboro looks to avenge last season's overtime 59-56 loss at home against the Speed.
