Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - March is all about bracketology, upsets and Cinderella stories and the GreenJackets started to write their own Cinderella story on Tuesday in a national competition for the best Minor League Baseball Logo. The GreenJackets, who are a number 12 seed, successfully knocked off number five seed, the Lake Elsinore Storm to move onto the second round of the CNBC Minor League Baseball Logo Contest.

There were 64 logo's chosen to participate in the competition with the GreenJackets seeded 12th in their perspective bracket. Garnering the most votes among the first round action, over 5,000 votes were cast as the GreenJackets narrowly upset the Storm, California League affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

"We are all really excited about this win and can not thank the people enough for voting us into the next round," GreenJackets General Manager Nick Brown said. "I don't want to say we are the next Cinderella story to come out of March, but hopefully the glass slipper still fits in the next round."

Voting for the first round of 64 ended at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning with Augusta holding the slight edge over its West Coast Competition.

"I'm not sure if the time difference really played a big factor in the outcome of the voting," Brown said. "I do know however that we led for most of the day (on Monday) and came out the winner on Tuesday and are now dancing onto the second round."

Brown and the rest of the GreenJackets faithful had to go to bed on Monday night hoping their lead would stand up to the three hour time difference between California and Georgia. The GreenJackets held on for the win with some last minute votes before the work day began, the same time the contest voting ended.

The GreenJackets will face a tough task in the second round of the logo contest with a match-up against number four seed, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. The Naturals are the Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and are the newest team in MiLB beginning their first season in 2008.

"I'm not sure what the outcome will be in the next round and I am sure it will be tough going up against a number four seed," Brown said. "Nobody thought a 12 could nock off a five though and look what happened, hopefully we get the people to come out again in the second round."

The winner of the 64 team field will be crowned the best Minor League Baseball Logo in the country and the competition runs through March 31 on the web site, www.cnbc.com.

The GreenJackets have had their current logo since the 2006 season and it highlights the GreenJackets' ties to the Augusta community and the Masters Golf Tournament with a bee in a green jacket holding two baseball bats and two golf clubs underlying the GreenJackets name.

The 20th Anniversary season begins at home on Thursday, April 3 with a four game series against Greensboro. The home stand will finish on Sunday, April 6; one day before The Masters first practice round will begin. It is the first time since the 2003 season that the GreenJackets will open at home before The Masters.

Season seat packages start as low as $55.00 per seat. For more information on season seats call the GreenJackets at 706-736-7889 or visit www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
