Grand Rapids Hoops News Release
The Grand Rapids HOOPS continued to stride toward the CBA postseason as they handed the Great Lakes Storm a 131-111 defeat on Wednesday night at the DeltaPlex Arena. The HOOPS sank a season-high 16 three-pointers in the game as they were able to take all seven quarter points and further solidify their hold on the final playoff spot in the American Conference.
Alex Scales led the aerial assault for Grand Rapids, draining seven of twelve three-point attempts on his way to a team-high 33 points (12-25 FG). Jerald Honeycutt also played a tremendous all-around game, scoring 21 points (7-17 FG), dishing out a season-high 12 assists and hauling in eight rebounds.
Grand Rapids (20-21) also received solid contributions from Jack Hartman (8-15 FG), who registered a season-high 19 points, and Kevin Simmons, who added 18 points (6-8 FG). Tim Kisner also scored a season-high 16 points (7-11 FG).
Simmons led Grand Rapids to a rare first-quarter win, as he scored ten points in the first frame to lead the HOOPS to a 34-26 advantage. Hartman was the key man in the second stanza, registering 11 points to help Grand Rapids earn a 66-55 lead at the break.
Great Lakes (18-26) continued their struggles in the second half as they were unable to gain a single quarter point in losing for the ninth time in eleven games.
The HOOPS were without Immanuel McElroy, who was suspended for one game for leaving the bench during an altercation near the end of Monday night's contest between the two teams. The Storm's Chris Allen was also suspended for his role. Several other players were also fined for straying from the bench area.
DeSean Hadley led the Storm in the loss with 34 points and 12 rebounds, while Cam Stephens also chipped in 25 points and 11 rebounds.
The HOOPS will now host the Rockford Lightning on Friday night at the DeltaPlex Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST.
