NJ/NY Gotham FC News Release
HARRISON, NJ - As NJ/NY Gotham FC's turnaround season continues, the club has ascended into third place in NWSL Standings (13 points), and the club now has an opportunity to move into second place this weekend in a head-to-head matchup against OL Reign at Lumen Field in Seattle on Sunday, May 21 (6 p.m. ET, Paramount+).
The two sides are in a two-way tie for second place. However, the Seattle-based club currently holds the edge on the goal-differential tiebreaker.
Heading into the match and with eyes on second place, Gotham FC will have some added incentive after OL Reign took the 1-0 victory earlier this season when the two sides first met at Red Bull Arena on April 1.
Depth and versatility have been a strength for Gotham FC this campaign, with players such as midfielder Allie Long stepping in to support at center back, forward Taylor Smith sliding into defense on the backline, and Jenna Nighswonger and Kelley O'Hara each slotting into roles at outside back, in the midfield, and at forward.
With three strong goalkeepers proving they are clean-sheet capable, Gotham FC's Abby Smith will enter the match after being named NWSL Player of the Week for Week 7.
Sunday's match in Seattle will be the first of two consecutive Sunday away games before Gotham FC returns home on June 4 to face the San Diego Wave with U.S. Women's National Team players Naomi Girma, Alex Morgan, and Taylor Kornieck.
