Good Friday

Brevard County Manatees News Release

All you Notre Dame fans can have a special Good Friday this year. Former ND standout Wide Receiver Jeff Samardzija is the projected starter for this Friday's Manatees-Daytona Cubs game. No April Fool's joke here. Last season he was with the Chicago Cubs Short-Season and Low-A affiliates; this year he begins with the Daytona Cubs

We've made a deal: I just got off the phone with Jeremy Zimmerman, the head guru in charge of the stadium's concessions. Jeremy says he'll serve fried fish out of the concession stands for Good Friday for Manatees fans. Jeremy says he'll serve fish and chips because he knows Samardzija will serve up a heapin' helpin' of some hanging curveballs for the 'Tees. Father Bob and all the rest of the Notre Dame Club, you can conduct your services inside the stadium, then stick around for the game. We have baseball chapel services here at the stadium all the time, and we've had a host of post-game Christian Concerts in the past couple years, so we'll offer it up to those that need to adjust their schedules, attend services, get some fish and chips and watch baseball.

Good Friday is also Schedule Magnet Night. All early arriving fans will receive a colored Schedule Magnet courtesy of our friends at BD Frog Mortgage and Via Tuscany Apartments.

Get your tickets online at www.manateesbaseball.com or by phone at (321) 633-9200 any time after 9:00 am tomorrow, or stop by the stadium's box office and get 'em in person. The Manatees roster and starting rotation isn't official yet, but when it is we'll get it out to you. The Manatees and Cubs tee it up right here at Space Coast Stadium this Thursday night to start the 2007 Florida State League baseball season. Every Thursday is Thirst Aid Thursday...all 12 ounce Miller Lite and soft drinks are only a buck all night long.

Get well wishes go out to League President Chuck Murphy who is recovering from a triple bypass operation in Daytona Beach. Chuck's heart has always been-and always will be-in baseball, so we expect it'll mend quickly!

A special thanks to the people that joined the Brevard County Manatees Booster Club. It took a lot of work but you managed to get it off the ground and up and running. We'd like to thank those fans from the Daytona Cubs that offered their advice and assistance as well. As time goes by and the club grows, this will be something you'll remember for a long, long time. Thank you, each and every one of you. I know the Brewers will be happy that you've dedicated yourselves and we couldn't be prouder that you're a part of the team.

How about the number of sportswriters and magazines that are picking the Milwaukee Brewers to take the NL Central this season? It's the 25-year syndrome. Just remember where you heard it first...every 25 years a team from Milwaukee goes toi the World Seriousness, every 50 years they win it. This is a 50th year, so jump on board this bandwagon before it gets full.

If you want Pocket Schedules sent to you in the mail, please send us a SASE to: Manatees Pocket Schedule Request, 5800 Stadium Parkway, Suite 101, Viera, FL 32940. In the bottom left hand corner of that SASE print the number of schedules you want. Like most teams we receive a huge request for pocket schedules. We can accommodate you if you send out the SASE.
