Orlando Rays News Release

ORLANDO - One swing of the bat and it was all over.

Jonny Gomes played the hero Monday night, driving a solo home run deep into the night in the 15th inning at Cracker Jack Stadium to lift the O-Rays to a 4-3 win over the visiting Huntsville Stars Monday. The blast was Gomes' second of the night and fourth of the year, sending the 2,033 fans, many of which stayed to the end, home happy.

Jose Veras pitched six scoreless innings in picking up his third no-decision. The hard-throwing righthander went 6.0 innings allowing two hits and striking out three. Travis Minix (1-0) earned the win in relief, pitching a scoreless 15th to earn the win.

Felix Escalona went 3-5 with a double and scored the game-tying run in the 14th inning to keep the O-Rays night alive. All three of Escalona's hits came in the extra innings. Mike Adams dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

The same two teams square off again tomorrow night at 7:05, with the O-Rays sending lefty Jon Switzer (1-0, 3.27) to the mound to take on Derek Lee (1-0, 3.86).
