The Wizards (2-1) swept all seven quarter points from the Skyforce (1-2), the first CBA game in which that has happened this young season. Kevin Rice was integral in pulling it all together. In addition to his 13 points, Rice grabbed 11 rebounds -- eight on the offensive end -- had seven assists and four steals. The Wizards also got strong contributions from Courtney James (17 points, nine rebounds) and Cory Bradford (13 points, 3-for-4 3-pointers) off the bench. Also important was getting point guard Malik Dixon involved. After a slow first half (0-for-5, one assist), he finished with 13 points and three assists. GRAND RAPIDS HOOPS: The Grand Rapids HOOPS suffered losses in their first two home contest of the 2002-03 season. On Wednesday, they were unable to stop the Idaho Stampede 94-91 in their third consecutive meeting to begin the season. The HOOPS had split a pair of games with the Stampede in the CBA's opening weekend. On Friday, the HOOPS dropped to 1-3 on the season, in a 134-126 barn-burner with the explosive Rockford Lightning. Larry Ayuso scored a season-high 38 points, while Kevin Simmons added 20 points and 17 boards in the loss. Prior to Friday's contest, Ira Bowman was placed on injured reserve, while Jerald Honeycutt continues to miss time due to a foot injury. Tim Kisner was signed to take Bowman's place on the roster. The HOOPS move on to host Gary on November 29, before heading out to play six of the next seven games on the road.
GREAT LAKES STORM: Forward Antonio Smith was nominated for the American conference player of the week award for the period November 15-23. He posted a rebound high of 25 points in his first game against the Rockford Lightning. He had another extraordinary game when the Storm went up against the Gary Steelheads. He scored 17 points and had 14 rebounds winning the game 110-101. Cory Hightower stepped in as starting guard when Jermaine Jackson was called up to the NBA on November 19th. He came into the game averaging 23 points.
IDAHO STAMPEDE: The Idaho Stampede returned to CBA action on November 15th with a pair of home games against the Grand Rapids Hoops. Grand Rapids won the first game 103-97 while Idaho fought back and won the following night, 93-92, behind a game-high 27 points by guard Mike Smith. The Stampede then hit the road for four games, going 1-3 in that span. On Nov. 20th, rookie Byron Mouton found perfection by shooting 10-10 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line en route to 24 points on the evening against Grand Rapids. Four nights later, in Rockford, Stampede guard Brian Green posted the second-highest point total in the league this year by scoring 41 against the Lightning. It went for not, though, as Rockford pulled out a 122-116 win in the last game of the Stampede's road trip.
ROCKFORD LIGHTNING: The Lightning concluded the week of November 23rd as the highest scoring team in the CBA with an average of 129.5 points per game. That would not only be the highest total in franchise history, but it also is just 4.1 ppg off the all time CBA single season scoring average record of 133.6 ppg set by the 1980-81 Rochester Zenith. The team has scored more than 120 points in each of their first 4 games. No CBA team in at least the last 17 years can claim that same achievement ('95-'96 Sioux Falls Skyforce and 86'-'87 Topeka Sizzlers each broke 120 points in their first three games). The Lightning boast the league's top two scorers: David Harrison at 26.8 ppg and Ronnie Fields at 24.8 ppg. The Lightning have also allowed the 3 highest individual single game scoring outputs of the season (Yakima's Tyson Wheeler: 46 pts, Idaho's Brian Green: 41 points, and Grand Rapids' Larry Ayuso: 38 points). American conference player of the week David Harrison is the only player to have more than one 30+ point effort. Harrison has eclipsed 30 in 3 of the Lightning's first 5 games. The team is quick and young: in fact David Harrison (who turns 27 next month) is Rockford's oldest player. He would be no higher than the fifth oldest player on any other CBA roster. First year head coach Chris Daleo became just the third person ever to win his first two games as Lightning coach (Charley Rosen and Rick Mahorn are the others). The Rockford Lightning won their only road game so far this season, a 134-126 win at Grand Rapids.
SIOUX FALLS SKYFORCE: Sioux Falls Skyforce - The Sioux Falls Skyforce ended their first full week of play on a high note by defeating the Yakima Sun Kings 90-77. The Force(2-4) picked up 6 quarter points in the victory. In the previous five games, the Force had won a combined 6.5 quarter points. The team opened the season with a 93-90 victory at Gary but went on to drop the next four games, including 3 straight to the Dakota Wizards. The team looks to build on their performance Monday night as they head to Idaho and Yakima for two games before returning to the Sioux Falls Arena on Tuesday, December 3rd. Point guard Kelley McClure, who is averaging 18.3 ppg and 4.1 apg, has led the Skyforce. Forward Korleone Young has chipped in with 16.5 ppg and 6.8 rpg.
YAKIMA SUN KINGS: On Friday, November 22nd, the Yakima Sun Kings hosted their first CBA game in almost two years, defeating the Great Lakes Storm, 114-110(4.5,2.5) before a crowd of 4,028. "I was not sure this day would ever come," said Sun King Director of Team Operations Rich Austin. "But I am so pleased and happy that CBA basketball has come back to the Yakima Valley." Guard Anthony Goldwire, who played for the Sun Kings on Yakima's 1994-95 Championship team and again in 1995-96, only lasted two games before receiving an NBA call-up to the San Antonio Spurs on November 20th. "Anthony certainly deserved this promotion," said Bill Bayno, Yakima Head Coach. "Call-ups are what the CBA is all about; getting kids to work hard to get to the next level. We are very proud of Anthony."

Antonio Smith pulled down a CBA season high 25 rebounds for the Great Lakes Storm on Nov. 16, in a 123-121 loss to the Rockford Lightning.

Behind the award winning trio of MVP Adrian Griffin, Defensive Player of the Year James Martin, and Coach of the Year Tyler Jones, the Pride would go on to defeat the Sioux Falls Skyforce, 4-1, in the 1999 CBA Finals.
